Homemade Peppermint Syrup {Refined Sugar Free!}

This DIY peppermint syrup is SO easy to make--and no refined sweeteners! I use it to flavor my homemade peppermint mochas!

I recently decided to make homemade peppermint syrup that I needed to use in another peppermint recipe (coming tomorrow!).

It was incredibly easy to put together–and it contains no refined sugars! Here’s the recipe:

Homemade Peppermint Syrup {with no refined sugars!}

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 cup sucanat (unrefined sugar–I get mine at our local healthfood store.)
  • 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract

Method:

Mix water and sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until boiling and sucanat is dissolved.  Add peppermint and let simmer a couple more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Store in a Mason jar.

I haven’t tried it, but I imagine you can make any flavored syrup this way by just changing out the extracts! Maybe I’ll make a vanilla syrup next!

Note: The syrup looks so dark because of the sucanat’s dark color.

Use this syrup to make a yummy homemade peppermint mocha!

Have you ever made your own flavored syrups? What’s your favorite flavored syrup?

    I use 1 drop of peppermint essential oil for about 2-3 mochas as it is so strong. I might have to try your unrefined version of this syrup. Thanks. :)
