Today, I’m excited to announce a new weekly feature: Kitchen Tools of the Trade: A Look Inside a Homemaker’s Kitchen “Toolbox.”
Each week, I’ll walk you through my kitchen and highlight one of my favorite gadgets or appliances. I’ll tell you how I use it, give some links to recipes that are the result of using it, and give some reasons why you may or may not want to invest in whatever it is.
For example, if you bake your own bread, you may want to invest in a bread machine. If you’re paleo, though, you won’t need one!
Each and every homemaker’s preferred kitchen tools are unique, so we’ll also include guest posts from various bloggers who will give you a look into their kitchen favorites!
Some of the kitchen tools we will cover include a:
- blender
- garlic press
- pastry mat
- food processor
- toaster oven
- life without a microwave
- grain mill
- essential oils and other special ingredients
- bread maker
- cast iron skillet
- crock pot
- and much, much more!
Instead of a series, this will actually be a weekly feature that will continue on until, well, we run out of kitchen tools!
Now, I’d like your input!
What kitchen “tools of the trade” would you like featured?

Wonderful! I’m a gadget junkie myself. How about a dehydrator?

We will definitely feature that one! I don’t currently own one, but we’ll have a guest post!
Oh, fabulous! Can’t wait to see them all.

I’m so happy that you are covering “life without a microwave”! We have recently chosen to go m microwave free and it has been tempting on several occasions (toddler hungry and crying, , big kids hungry , late for lunch and getting close to nap time…). Also, I am a big, BIG fan of kitchen gadgets that can multi task and my kitchen scissors are probably m y favorite tool as far as daily use. I use them for cutting sandwiches, homemade pizza, spaghetti noodles, and many more things! I just love them!
We still have a microwave b/c hubby likes it.
But I am looking forward to Sara’s guest post on it! I love and use my kitchen scissors daily as well!

I love that you are doing a microwave post. I just posted one earlier this week and was very surprised at the responses I got.

This will be very helpful for so many home cooks!
We went microwave-less about a year ago. It’s been great. However, the one thing I can’t seem to figure out…heating up a rice pack. The moist heat from a rice pack is SO helpful, especially for neck pain. Perhaps you could include something about that in your post. Otherwise, I’m hoping for a stand mixer post.
Wondering if you have ever tried the mats that fit into your baking pans to keep things from sticking?
I am really looking forward to reading your cast iron pan and crockpot posts. Those are essential to my kitchen. Do you ever cook on a woodstove?
Also, cooking with a rice cooker.
The other tool you didn’t mention are hands. I know it sounds silly but there are a lot of recipes that are all about technique but not appliances. Anything along those lines would be so great.

A pasta maker or lack thereof, do you think it’s helpful or unnecessary or a kitchenaid pasta maker attachment. I’m really into making my own pasta now and so on the fence about buying a pasta maker!
I am so looking forward to reading this weekly feature. Such a great idea.
To be honest, a simple wooden spoon and a whisk, a mixing bowl and a working range are all I really need. Looking forward to the series!
