Each December, we prepare for Christmas as a family by celebrating the season of Advent. This is our favorite resource!
It’s hard to believe that Advent starts Sunday! It really seemed to sneak up on me this year, as Thanksgiving was so late!
My favorite Advent activity book to use with my girls is Truth in the Tinsel.
I am NOT a crafty mom. Crafts do NOT come naturally to me. In fact, art was one of my least favorite subjects in school because when you give me glue and paper and yarn and beads, etc., I just make a mess out of it. My hands much prefer a keyboard to type. 😉
But my girls? They LOVE crafts–especially my 5-year-old! Truth in the Tinsel is a printable ebook that provides a short devotional and a craft for each day leading up to Christmas. It takes the guess work out of the equation making doing activities with my girls oh-so-easy for this uncreative mom!
When I first purchased the ebook, I printed it out and placed it in a binder to be used year after year! We usually take our crafts and use them to decorate our Advent tree.
Last year, I purchased the Truth in the Tinsel printable ornaments as well. These were perfect for my then newly-turned two-year-old who really didn’t have the fine motor skills for the crafts at the time, and they were also great to use on busy days when we didn’t have time for even my then 4-year-old to complete the craft.
This year, we will probably use the printables again on busy days, and on the days we have time my 3 and 5-year-olds will complete the crafts, and I may attempt to get my 15-month-old to color the printables. We’ll see!
In addition to Truth in the Tinsel, we enjoy reading a variety of Christmas-themed books, decorate with nativity scenes from around the world and do some kind of small special activity each day to celebrate the season–like build a gingerbread house, visit a Christmas light show or make hot chocolate together and do Star from Afar.
It’s not too late to get started with Truth in the Tinsel. If you just use the printable ornaments, you don’t have to buy any supplies. Just print out the ornaments and have your children color them during each day’s devotional! If you want to do the crafts, you will want to go shopping for supplies sometime over the weekend or early next week–or just use what you already have on hand.
How does your family celebrate Advent?
Truth in the Tinsel is just $9.99 and can be purchased here. You can also get the printable ornaments for just $4.99. You can print out the book or just read the instructions/devotional from your computer, eReader, tablet or phone. I personally printed mine out.
