If you’re looking for a good book for a mom on your list (or to give your husband to get for YOU this Christmas!), then you’ll want to check out these 10 books for moms!
If you’ve been around the site any length of time at all, you know that I LOVE to read! The time I’ve been able to invest in reading has varied over the years, and I definitely went through a period of having three babies in four years when I didn’t get to read much at all.
Thankfully, I am now able to read more regularly again, and I read some really great books this year!
I thought I would share with you all some of my top picks of books for moms–including four cookbooks!
Money-Making Mom
I have written a lot about how I went from being a stay-at-home mom who could barely afford it to being a money-making mom through this blog.
If you are a mom looking to make a little extra cash or even begin a whole new career, then I encourage you to check out this book!
Breaking Busy
I am in the middle of reading this one right now, and the message is resonating with me so much, as “breaking busy” has pretty much been the theme of the second half of my 2015!
If you are tired of the daily grind of a culture laden with busyness, then this would be a good book for you.
Making It Home
Emily’s Atlas Girl was my favorite book of 2014, and her sequel, Making It Home, does not disappoint.
If you love memoirs and have ever felt like you didn’t have a purpose, then this would be a good book for you to check out.
In a nutshell, Emily never dreamed of being a mom, but after a miscarriage and a years-long battle with an eating disorder, she finds herself a mom to two biological sons as well as the foster mom of two other young boys.
This book chronicles her journey of finding peace right where God has her, and Emily’s vulnerable, transparent writing style embodies that of a humbled homemaker trying to find her way home.
Hoodwinked: Ten Myths Mom Believe & Why We All Need to Knock It Off
Confession: I have not yet read this one, but it’s sitting on my night stand right now, and I am planning on diving in as soon as I finish Breaking Busy.
I’m recommending it on the fact that The Better Mom is a super inspiring blog for moms, and with a quick skim of this book, I can already tell it’s going to be an encouraging read.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
So this one would be an excellent read for moms, dads, grandparents, and especially humbled homemakers!
If you are prone to clutter or just tired of having so much STUFF taking up space in your home, I highly, highly recommend this book!
Warning: There are a few strange parts of this book, and it’s obvious the author is not a Christian (she almost seems to worship inanimate objects), but as my friend Stacy put it, “Chew up the meat; spit out the bones.”
I found this book incredibly inspiring, and it will make my list of top 10 books read in 2015.
Loving the Little Years
I read this book at the end of 2014, and I really loved it!
The author had several kids under the age of 5 when she wrote it, so note that it’s not really for seasoned moms.
But if you’re in the trenches with babies and toddlers and preschoolers, this book will be an encouraging read!
Good Cheap Eats: Dinner in 30 Minutes (or Less!)
This cookbook just came out a few months ago, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites.
Our family went from barely eating out for many years (simply because we could not afford it!) to eating out way.too.much over the past year or so, and I’m finding Jessica’s quick and easy (but healthy!) recipes are helping me re-hone my cooking skills and curb the temptation to succumb to take-out.
I am making recipes from this cookbook at least once per week.
Good Cheap Eats: Dinner in 30 Minutes (or Less!) has shown me that it is 100% possible to make healthy, whole food meals without spending hours slaving away in the kitchen.
Good Cheap Eats: Everyday Dinners and Fantastic Feasts for $10 or Less
This was Jessica’s first Good Cheap Eats cookbook. I use both books every single week in my kitchen. The recipes in both are cheap and easy, but the are also very healthy, and both books have different recipes.
Not Your Mother’s Make-Ahead and Freeze Cookbook
I have a Kindle version of this one, but I’ve come to realize that I much prefer a print version of cookbooks! So, I’ve added this one to my Christmas list!
Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook
My hubby got me this one for my birthday. I absolutely love Pearl and Serene’s full-color cookbook! One problem I’ve had with following the Trim Healthy Mama diet plan is that the recipes in their first book were hard for this humbled homemaker to follow!
Their new cookbook does not disappoint!
Bonus Book for Celebrating Advent:
Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Experience for Little Hands
Use code HUMBLED to get 20% off this book–all season long! Click here to order.
Our family has been using this printable eBook with our girls for four years now! The book includes a craft activity and devotional for every day leading up to Christmas, starting on November 30.
Although I’m not crafty (at all!), my girls love to do crafts, and I appreciate the easy-to-understand directions for each craft.
Even though it’s the same crafts every year, they end up looking different, and instead of spending a lot of money on crafting materials, we usually improvise and just use what we already have on hand.
An alternative to the crafts is to purchase the printable ornaments for your kids to color, which are great for younger kids or for non-crafty moms (or just for those days when you don’t have a whole lot of time to work on a craft!).
You can get the whole curriculum here or get the coloring sheets as an add-on here.
Churches or preschools can also purchase a group license to use the curriculum here, and it’s now available in Spanish and German!
I wrote more about how we use Truth in the Tinsel in this post.

I’d add “The Fringe Hours” as another life-changing book for me. You mentioned a couple new ones to me that I’ll have to check out…but I used my 30% coupon on a Christmas book for my son instead!

I read it this year too…so good!!
Lisa @ This Pilgrim Life
Looks like I have a lot to add to my reading list, because I have only read two of these!
Erin
Oh wow! Which ones have you read?
Lisa @ This Pilgrim Life
Loving the Little Years and The Magic Art of Tidying Up. Though I only made it halfway through the latter because of pregnancy. Have you read Rachel Janovic’s 2nd book– Fit to Burst? It is excellent too.

Ever since I read Loving The Little Years, I have wanted to keep a stash to give to every young mom I meet. It was a lifeline for me when I read it.

It’s so good, isn’t it?!
