Every baby should be celebrated, and your friends will love these ideas for hosting a baby sprinkle shower for second babies!
I’m a firm believer in celebrating every new baby.
While it’s more common for friends and family to host baby showers for first babies, I enjoy throwing baby sprinkle showers for second or third (or fourth!) babies.
Just what is a baby sprinkle shower? The point of most baby showers is to shower the mother with gifts for the new baby–clothes, diapers, wipes, baby gear, and every baby item imaginable.
But when parents have several babies in quick succession (like we did with our first three children!), many people mistakenly believe the family is set and doesn’t need anything for the new baby.
I’ve come to realize that’s just not the case.
Enter: baby sprinkle showers.
These showers are sometimes smaller than baby showers for first children, but they are full of love and generosity.
They will often take on different themes, depending on what the parents need for their new babies.
The next time one of your friends announces that she is expecting again (I keep saying that “four” is the new “two” because, like us, most of our friends have at least four children now!), try your hand at one of these ideas for hosting the perfect baby sprinkle shower:
Hosting a Perfect Baby Sprinkle Shower
1. Host a Diaper and Wipes Sprinkle.
What baby doesn’t need diapers and wipes? And if the parents are using disposable diapers, this can be one of the most expensive parts of the baby’s first year!
This is a shower where the gifts are just diapers and wipes. Try your hand at making a diaper cake, and bless your friend with enough diapers to last the whole year!
(By the way: Shopping in bulk is one of three ways I never run out of diapers! Click here to read the rest of them!)
2. Host a Baby Clothes Sprinkle.
For this one, tell guests to only bring clothes in the new baby’s gender.
This sprinkle is best for parents who are having a baby of a different sex from their other children. It was an incredible blessing to receive baby boy clothes for our son who was born in February. After having three girls, we definitely didn’t have much blue hanging around our house!
3. Host a Stock-the-Freezer Sprinkle.
What new mama doesn’t need help with meals?
Postpartum recovery can be tough, and I don’t know a mama who would refuse a sprinkle where her friends bless her with home-cooked freezer meals!

My favorite sprinkle shower is a “pass the baby” party. I don’t find out gender until my babies are born, and it’s fun to let everyone hold the baby. My church gives every mom a baby shower regardless of what number kid it is. My church calls it Prayers and Pampers, diapers and wipes and prayers are all that are ever asked for; but you can gift anything you want.
