You don’t have to miss out on your favorite foods even if you are gluten-free! Check out this homemade gluten-free sausage ball recipe!
One of my favorite Christmas recipes my mom has always made is homemade sausage balls. Even when, as a pre-teen, I decided I wasn’t big on beef or pork, I would still pick the sausage out and savor the balls of flour and cheese!
These were a Christmas staple, and I just knew I would be making them for my own children when I grew up.
But that was before we knew our family would have to go gluten-free.
Y’all know I LOVE Aldi, right? When I recently stumbled across their new gluten-free baking mix, I knew I had to try giving it a whirl with my mom’s simple, no frills homemade sausage ball recipe.
The result?
I am now able to make homemade gluten-free sausage balls each Christmas, and they taste no different than the ones my mom made when I was growing up!
Homemade Gluten-Free Sausage Balls
Yield 24 meatballs
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups gluten-free baking mix
- 1/2 lb. cheddar cheese, grated*
- 1 lb. sausage (I prefer turkey sausage!)
- 1/4-1/2 cup water
Instructions
1. Mix baking mix, grated cheese and raw sausage together with hands.
2. Add 1/4 cup water to help dough and meat/cheese combo stick together. Add more water if the dough is not sticking.
3. Form dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place on a baking sheet.
4. Bake on 300 degrees F for 30 minutes or until balls are cooked through.
Notes
*My family was dairy-free for about 3 1/2 years, but we have just started adding back dairy in limited amounts. We seem to do best with raw milk cheese, which I used in this recipe.

Hi!
Hel, I’m making the gluten free sausage balls for dinner tonight and I just wanted to make sure that the baking mix you are talking about is just gluten free flour? I use the gf all purpose flour from trader Joes, will that work? Thx for your response!
