You don’t have to spend a fortune shopping at health food stores! Here’s a great list to get you started shopping for healthy food at Kroger!
When our family first started the transition to living a healthier lifestyle, I was under the impression that eating healthy would cost us an arm and a leg.
We would have to spend a fortune and shop exclusively at health food stores, or we would just have to stick to a conventional diet.
I’m so glad I was wrong!
Two changes have happened in the near-decade since we began this path to wellness:
- I’ve discovered that I can find nearly everything I need at regular supermarkets to prepare wholesome meals for my family.
- Most mainline grocery chains have slowly but surely transitioned their offerings to including more of what health food junkies demand.
Kroger is no exception.
I began shopping at Kroger stores when we were newlyweds. We lived in a small {ish} Mississippi town right outside of Memphis, and my choices were limited. There were no fancy health food stores for miles. Time and time again, Kroger beat out the other options with their healthier foods.
While we no longer shop at Kroger on a regular basis since, sadly, there aren’t any available where we now live in North Carolina, we still frequent them every time we visit Will’s family in Mississippi. Kroger is where his mom, sister, and dad do much of their grocery shopping.
I was happy to recently discover that Kroger has stepped things up a notch and is now offering even more healthy food choices than when we lived near one!
Shopping for Healthy Food at Kroger
Besides fresh whole foods–like organic produce, meat, and dairy products–Kroger also offers foods like:
- Simple Truth organic salad
- nuts from Simple Truth
- Simple Truth hormone/antibiotic-free chicken
- organic stock and broth from Simple Truth
- Simple Truth organic frozen fruit
- Simple Truth cage-free eggs
- SILK non-dairy milks (my favorite brand for almond milk!)
- Nature’s Path organic cereals
- Simple Truth organic cheese
- Simple Truth organic tortilla chips and popcorn
The above list is just a sampling of all they offer.
You’ll notice that many of these are sold under the Simple Truths brand label. This label is exclusive to Kroger and Kroger-affiliated grocery chains, which makes the items more affordable than other mainstream brands.

We love Kroger! With not only wanting to eat healthier but also having a husband and 2 kids with food allergies Krogers wide variety of organic and alternative food choices has been a huge blessing for us. I love the Simple Truth Organic red lentil beans. I put them into a can of minestrone soup with some Simple Truth Organic chicken stock. The lentil beans and stock are each a wonderful addition to the canned minestrone soup, and something we enjoy in Ohio when it is cold.

We shop at Fred Meyer, which is the Pacific Northwest version of Kroger. I love that they have a whole natural/organic section where we can find some gluten free easy things for our two girls. Like the Envirokidz crispy bars you have in the picture – totally in my cupboard right now.

I haven’t seen the So Delicious dairy free frozen dessert at Kroger. I will have to look for that. I do 90% of my grocery shopping at Kroger. It’s the only grocery store in my area except for Walmart. I have purchased Simple Truth products on occasion and have been pleased.

Fred Meyer is our “Kroger” store in Idaho, and I like to buy organics there when it is not something I need in a size from the warehouse store. I am excited to find out about Simple Truth being their store brand. I will definitely be looking at those much more. We have a Fred Meyer’s here in alaska which is owned by Kroger. And it is our favorite store because they have so many foods for my family with severe food allergies.

Love Kroger (Fry’s in my area)! I buy their Simple Truth organic chicken thighs all the time along with produce (dirty dozen) from their organic area. I didn’t realize that they have organic frozen fruit though. I’ll definitely be buying that for our occasional smoothies.

I am a Fred Meyer girl. Aka Kroger. I have mastered the art of using coupons both print and digital. The best part about this store is that they rotate the sale items so I never pay full price but just wait until it goes on coupon or sale, then stock up. For example, I never pay more than $1.66 for a bag of Fritos. I like the simple truth brand a lot! The tortilla chips and coconut oil are really good. Thanks!

I’ve used the Simple Truth yogurt mixed with fruit quite often. Not sure what will be first but I need to check out plenty of their other Simple Truth items too. Love the produce at Kroger too!
