I remember the very early years of marriage and then soon after motherhood, when I felt completely exhausted, unsure of anything, and like I had been thrown into the deep end of life without even a pair of arm cuff floats to help keep my head above water. Oh, I was overwhelmed, and empty of joy.
I thought I had to know everything about being a godly wife and mother before I even began that journey, so when the pressures and demands of these portions of my life came in droves, I did not know what to do. What a blessing it was to learn that I did not have to be “perfect,” but simply commit my life to Him each day (here’s a post on embracing real life in place of an imaginary “perfect” one).
Thankfully, it was not too long after that when I began to turn to Yahweh in the Word to find hope and encouragement to continue for another day. His Word helped to attack the lies in my mind, and proclaim the Truth that brings freedom from bondage. Day after day, year after year, His Word speaks comfort to me, and continues to take captive the deceptions and worries of the world, and replace them with His total Truth (for scriptures to deal with fear and worry, click here).
His Word is a treasure-trove of assurance, wisdom, and practical application for us even today, which truly reveals His majesty and Sovereignty! What a blessing we have in Yahweh. What an honor it is to call Him our Abba.
Some days can be so overwhelming, though, that we must practice focusing our minds on Him that our hearts not be led astray. This is where the Word comes in.
So, for those days when things feel upside down, hopeless, or just completely non-stop, here are 25 scriptures to help you focus your mind on and return to the experience His shalom truly brings: peace in the storms of life.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” ~ Philippians 4: 8

My favorite verse is Philippians 4:6-7. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
This verse can give me hope on the hard days.

Haha, yes, Psalms definitely are soothing for the soul. Psalm 119 has been a powerhouse of encouragement and promise for us time and time again. I had never seen this scripture before when about 15 yrs ago I was reading my Bible (having suffered from varying degrees of depression for 25 yrs) I ‘happened’ upon this verse. I felt ‘waves’ gently washing over my heart and I realized a few weeks later I was no longer depressed. Even two years later, when my 21 yr old twin son was killed in an accident the depression never returned! The Lord did such a deep work. sigh…

I have another one to add that has helped me many times. It is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So many times when I felt I did not have the strength or energy to go on, I recite this verse over and over in my heart and head as well as saying a prayer. God always gives me the strength I need.

I saw your page today and would like to follow you. I do not know what to do – not good with a computer. At age 72 God called me to preach so am in 5 different rural churches. I love what I am doing (retired as an RN after 40 years). I need uplifted and encouraged to continue as long as He wants me to serve Him in this way. One of my favorite scriptures is Paul saying “To live is Christ. To die is gain”. Amen
