Happy New Year!
As I enter each new year, I love to go back and reflect on the one before. It’s especially fun to check out which posts resonated the best with readers each year!
It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone–and 2016 marks 5 years of The Humbled Homemaker!
From the practical to the inspirational, here are the top posts from 2015! I hope you enjoy this year in review!
1. 3 Reasons Why Our Family Avoids Sleepovers
I tease my husband that he should just take over writing on the blog because his posts are usually super popular! For two years in a row, he wrote the most popular post on the site!
We knew we were countercultural in our sleepover rule, but we decided to go ahead and put ourselves out there. My husband wrote the post, where he vulnerably shared (for the first time ever) some really bad things that happened to him at sleepovers, which is a major factor in leading us to make them a no-no for our girls.
We were excited to see that the post not only resonated with so many but that it also prompted many families to make a “no sleepovers” decision of their own.

2. Freezer-to-Crockpot Chicken Fajitas
I love me a good freezer meal, but what I love even more is a no-cook freezer-to-crockpot meal!
The freezer-to-crockpot chicken fajita tutorial from Kelly at New Leaf Wellness was a HUGE hit!

3. 14 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Men {Written by a Man}
In a follow-up to his HUGELY successful stocking stuffers for men post, my husband put together a Valentine’s Day gift guide for men. Not only did this prove helpful for tens of thousands of readers, but it also helped me, as I never know what to get my husband (and evidently I am not alone!).

4. My $170 Grocery Budget Challenge
Although it proved a little bit controversial because some readers took issue with what Shannon fed (or “denied”) her children for snacks, overall, contributing writer Shannon Brown’s challenge to eat on $170 for one month was a huge hit with readers who were inspired to take similar challenges themselves.

5. 25 Scriptures for When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
I have to admit that this guest post from Julie at Savvy Homemaking was one of my personal favorites. My deepest desire is that this website will be one where you can come and find encouragement. If you’re struggling with overwhelming, this post is a must-read!

6. How Our Family Saves Money By Shopping at Costco
Alas, we don’t have a Costco nearby, but I had heard such raving reviews from Costco enthusiasts that I asked contributing writer April Swiger to write about her experience.
The result? Thousands of readers converted to Costco lovers as well–and learned how to eat well on a budget in the process!

7. Homemade Powdered Sugar
I’ve been making my own homemade powdered sugar for years, but I didn’t think of sharing the easy-peasy way I do it with you all until the Christmas season this year!
If you are looking for a way to “healthify” your desserts with powdered organic sugar (harder to find in a store) or powdered sucanat (unrefined sugar), then this post is a must-read!

8. Feeding Your Family for $350 a Month
In this post, contributing writer Tiffany, of Don’t Waste the Crumbs, introduced readers to her revolutionary meal plans, which allow families of four to eat whole, real foods for just $350/month!
(And even larger families and those with food allergies can learn how to slash their budgets with Tiffany’s tips, although they will be paying more than $350/month. They can still save big!)
In this post, Tiffany gave links to some free resources as well, which her site is chock full of! I was excited to see that she is actually running an amazing sale on her meal plans.
I guarantee that following Tiffany’s meal plans will save more than the cost of the meal planning membership!

9. That Time My iPhone Scrolling Could Have Cost My Daughter Her Life
The highlight of my 2015 was, without a doubt, getting to travel to Costa Rica with my family for five weeks.
But, while there, I also had one of the biggest scares of my life when my daughter almost choked on a quarter–all while I was lying beside on her on the bed, on my phone.

10. 7 Homemaking Rules to Break…and 3 to Keep
I’m a rule follower by nature; however, too much rigidity when it comes to homemaking drives me bonkers! Evidently I’m not the only one! This post by contributing writer Sarah Mueller was a huge hit!
