There is a lot of advice out there! For every piece of advice, there is another piece that contradicts it. So, are you going to the right people for advice?

I first started reading blogs as a brand new mom. I only read two or three for the first few years of motherhood, and I honestly had no idea an entire community of mom bloggers existed.
Fast forward more than eight years, and I’ve now had a blog of my own for nearly six.
But something about the mom blogging culture has begun to alarm me lately.
When I look around the blogosphere, I see a lot of new and/or inexperienced mamas doling out all sorts of advice–for issues which they have very little experience in themselves.
I’ll shoot it to you straight: I’ve been married for nearly 11 1/2 years, and I’ve been a mom for 8 1/2 years.
That means:
- I know a thing or two about marriage, but only from the standpoint of someone whose been married just over a decade. Want tried-and-true marriage advice from someone who’s been at it for the long haul? Check out Two Becoming One.
- I’ve been through the baby years three times–and all within four years. I know a good bit about that season, and I’m embarking on that gig for the fourth time around soon. So if you need some advice on the baby years, I’ve got you covered.
- I breastfed for 6 1/2 years. I might not remember every single detail about breastfeeding, but I’m very experienced in that area.
- But as my children are only in kindergarten and second grade right now, I wouldn’t be the right blogger to read about for advice on how to rear school-age children, tweens, or teens. I’m not there yet. But Amy McCready from Positive Parenting Solutions is a great resource for parenting advice.
- I’ve learned how to keep a clean home, but it’s most definitely a challenging area for me. I can tell you what works for our family, but an expert in the area of home management is Fly Lady.

Erin,
Well, I’m not a mom – I was actually directed to your site by Keelie Reason 🙂 – but I still really appreciated this post.
Sort of reminded me of Rehoboam’s sin in 1 Kings 12 of rejecting the advice of the older, wiser elders, and then going to the younger friends of his for their advice. Led to his ruin and the division of the nation.
Erin
That’s such a good comparison!!
