Making your own apple pie spice is much cheaper than purchasing a pre-made blend at the store. Adjust the spices to your own personal taste preferences.

Fall is here and with it comes all the foods of the season. Pumpkin-flavored items are showing up on the grocery-store shelves and fresh-picked apples are lining the baskets at Farmer’s Markets.
Ah, apples…
It’s hard to find a smell that evokes more of a feeling of fall than a fresh apple pie just pulled from the oven. The right combination of spices, combined with the apples, create a truly satisfying dessert.
Our family likes to have a mixture of these spices on hand at all times to add a new depth of fall-flavor to a variety of dishes. With cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, and a hint of clove – this apple pie spice mixture is a great addition to a bowl of oatmeal or applesauce, a batch of pancakes or muffins, rice pudding, and even to this Baked Apple Bread{less} Pudding.
Making your own apple spice seasoning is also much cheaper than purchasing a pre-made blend at the store. If you are running low, just make some more! You can also adjust the spices to your own personal taste preferences.

Cardaman sounds like a wonderful addition to apple pie! My father-in-law loves apple pie so I make it often. I will have to spice it up a little differently next time! 😉

I love making my own spice mixes and I do it most of the time, but this is one I haven’t made yet. Thanks so much for your recipe. I’m pinning it now. I like to add fresh or dried apples to my morning oatmeal so this would be a wonderful addition rather than just cinnamon. Thanks, Sarah. I’m heading over to check out your blog now.
