Mangoes have been one of my favorite fruits for a long time now. I didn’t really eat them growing up, but when I discovered them while living in Costa Rica 10 years ago, I fell in love. (And that’s actually where I met and fell in love with my hubby as well!)
In Costa Rica, mangoes are so abundant that people drive over them in the street and think nothing of it. There are mango trees everywhere, and people eat the sweet fruit both ripe and green.
In fact, one of my family’s favorite ways to eat mangoes is by slicing up not-quite-ripe mangoes, dousing them in a little lemon or lime juice and sprinkling them with salt. It may sound strange, but it’s actually very yummy!
A few weeks ago I was honored to attend a live webinar put on by The National Mango Board. This talk took my love for mangoes to a whole new level! I knew mangoes were healthy for me, but the webinar armed with me the facts on just how much mangoes are a super food that we need to incorporate into our diets!
Without further ado, check out these health benefits of mangoes…and pin some of the yummy-looking recipes below!
A one-cup serving of mangos is just 100 calories and provides 100% of your daily Vitamin C
Hello, mangoes! (Goodbye, oranges! Ha!) Seriously, mangoes are so full of flavor–and so easy to peel and cut. They may just become my go-to fruit for when we feel colds and other illnesses coming on!
Mangos are a super fruit with more than 20 different vitamins and minerals
Yep–you read that right…20! How cool is that?
Mangos are an excellent source of vitamins A and C, both important antioxidant nutrients
We’ve already touched on Vitamin C, but Vitamin A is just as important, and both are great, essential nutrients to our health.
Mangos are fat free, cholesterol free and a good source of dietary fiber
No need to worry about mangoes when it comes to packing on the pounds. 😉 And they help get things moving in your digestive system.
Along with these health benefits, the webinar also taught me how to select a good mango at the store and about the different varieties of mangoes available.

I’ve never enjoyed the taste of mangoes, but I am participating in a 30 day green smoothie challenge this month, and some of the upcoming recipes include mangoes, so I’ll be trying them soon! Now that I know how great they are for me, I’ll try harder to like the taste, haha. ( ;
