A few weeks ago, I told you about how much my family enjoys Netflix. It is a blessing to have access to so many family-friendly TV shows and movies–at such an affordable price.
Netflix recently launched their family site, which categorizes their offerings in a variety of ways. Among others, the categories include: Family Movie Night, TV for Curious Kids (mostly documentaries), Are We There Yet? Great Titles to Take on Vacation, Classics to Share with Your Kids (anyone remember Saved by the Bell?!), Get Ready for Preschool and Quiet Time.
Whereas I don’t want or condone my kids watching TV of any sort all summer long, having Netflix so readily available on our TV, my Kindle and phones has helped so much when the days are too hot to go outside and play.
And although I would never suggest using Netflix as a “babysitter,” I must confess that it has come in very handy as my husband and I have been quickly packing up our house to get ready for our move in a few weeks. With my Kindle and our smart phones, our older girls can move from room to room with us while watching quality and educational programming.
Like us, many families in the U.S. already have three or more Netflix-ready devices in their household. Netflix works on a wide range of devices including smartphones, tablets, laptops, Smart TVs, Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo Wii. Families with Netflix can enjoy their favorites – always without commercials – anytime, anywhere.
The family movies on Netflix also make hosting family movie nights a breeze. One of our favorites to all watch together is The Lorax. My husband and I both love how this movie teachers good stewardship over creation with its emphasis on green living. It’s been a great movie for us to watch as a family and discuss the meaning behind it both during and after it.
Curious George is another great TV show–and movie–that has inspired our entire family to better stewardship. As funny as it may sound, my husband and I actually discovered composting by watching Curious George! Our 5 year old has connected how George composts, recycles and gardens–just like her family!
The Netflix Families lists our family identifies the most with include the family movies and preschool programming. There are also plenty of shows and movies for grown-ups, but I’ll be honest: We adults don’t watch much TV by ourselves!
The new Netflix Families page is available for both members and non-members to view the categories, TV/movie choices and even reviews. If you don’t yet have a Netflix membership and would like to try it out, anyone can also get one month for FREE.
My family likes to keep our summer activities simple and frugal (or free as much as possible!), but I read somewhere the other day that parents spend nearly double on summer entertainment than they do during the holidays. Double!! A one-year Netflix subscription costs less than taking a family of five on two trips to the movie theater – and that’s without popcorn.
Netflix delivers big entertainment without breaking the bank ($7.99/month).
Netflix.com/Families is a new destination designed to meet your family’s summertime entertainment needs. On Netflix.com/Families, parents can find lists of movies and TV shows for all kinds of special summer moments.
Visit www.Netflix.com/Families for more information on the best ways to stream as well as videos from families using Netflix.

We love Netflix also! After purchasing a Roku we signed up for Netflix. We dropped cable TV back in 2008 and have never looked back. For a fraction, and if you know the cost of cable, that is putting it mildly, we watch whatever we want, whenever we want without commercials. It’s great!

Glad we aren’t the only ones! We got Roku last Christmas, and I absolutely love it!

General public choices now manipulate the entertainment market placein a way which has beeninconceivable prior tothe online world together with the viral delivery of current information and alsocomplete entertainment material. If you add to that distribution on the web and news websites, from rumor to whole motion pictures. It’s really a brand-new world. Some of it fine, some not.

The traditional Hollywood companies are unable to determine the thingsthe ticker buyers prefer or can get as they would in earlier times. After you add to that distribution on the internet, media, web-sites, from gossip to complete motion pictures. It’s a whole new world. Some of it beneficial, some not.
