These homemade bathroom cleaning recipes will save you so much money–and they will guarantee a natural, non-toxic way to clean!
The most frugal way to healthfully clean your bathroom is to make your own cleaning products.
Basic ingredients I keep on hand for cleaning include:
• Baking Soda
• Castile Soap (a highly-concentrated, natural soap without nasty toxins)
• White Vinegar
• Essential Oils

The following cleaning recipes will allow you to clean your bathroom from counters to toilets to tub and floor—and they require nothing more than the above four ingredients!
Who knew cleaning your bathroom could be so simple?!
1) Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner
For this cleaning recipe, you need two simple ingredients:
Step 1: Sprinkle baking soda in the toilet bowl.
Step 2: Pour white vinegar into the toilet; swish and scrub with the toilet brush until the toilet is sparkling clean!
2) Homemade Soft Scrub
Use this easy homemade soft scrub to clean your counters, the outside of your toilet, and the bathtub. All you need is:
• 3/4 cup baking soda
• 3 tablespoons castile soap
• water
1st Step: Combine the baking soda and castile soap.
2nd Step: Slowly add water until the consistency is a a smooth paste.
3rd Step: Optional: Add several drops of your favorite antibacterial essential oil, such as tea tree, lavender, orange, peppermint, or lemon.
Scoop out the soft scrub onto a clean sponge and start cleaning!
Tip: If you have stains on your bathtub, you can let the soft scrub soak for several hours before wiping it off.
Alternately, you can sprinkle a generous amount of pure baking soda by itself into the tub and let it sit. You will be amazed at how well as an affordable of an ingredient like baking soda can remove tough stains!
3) Homemade Tile or Linoleum Floor Cleaner
We have three bathrooms in our home, and two have tile flooring while the third has linoleum. Thankfully, this easy homemade floor cleaner will take care of both—with two ingredients, no less!
All you need is:
• white vinegar
• water
• optional: baking soda
Combine equal parts vinegar and water and get to mopping! For tough stains, try sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda onto the stain or using the homemade soft scrub recipe to loosen set-in grime.
Alternately, you can just use water if you have a steam mop! We purchased a steam mop a few years back, and it’s been one investment I haven’t regretted.
4) Homemade Mirror and Window Cleaner
If you have young children at home, keeping your mirrors clean can be quite the challenge. I feel your pain, Mama! Those little hand prints are the cutest things ever, but, if nothing else, you’ll want a clean, finger-print-free mirror before guests arrive.
Thankfully, you can clean both your mirrors and your windows with just two ingredients:
• 1 cup white vinegar
• 1 cup water
• Optional: essential oils of choice
To make the mirror and window cleaner, simply mix the vinegar and water in a glass spray bottle.
Spray your mirrors or windows, and wipe clean.
If you want to cut the vinegar smell or simply want to add the power of antibacterial essential oils, free feel to mix in a few drops of your favorite scents. Mine include the clean smell of tea tree and lavender.
5) Homemade Foaming Hand Soap
This foaming hand soap is my family’s favorite, and it’s a cinch to make! You will never buy foaming hand soap again after learning how easy and affordable you can do it yourself.
All you need is:
• 1/4 part liquid castile soap
• 3/4 part distilled water
Simply combine the soap and water in an empty foaming hand soap dispenser. Voila!
6) Homemade Air Freshener
If you have children in diapers or pull-ups, this homemade air freshener is going to save your life!
Although all of my children have been potty trained for several years at this writing, one still wears pull-ups at night. If I don’t change the bathroom trash bags daily, an ammonia smell from the soiled pull-ups will soon stink up the entire room.
When I change the trash bags, I have a habit of spraying out the waste basket with this homemade air freshener.
The essential oils in it sanitize while also leaving a pleasant aroma throughout the room.
All you need is:
• water
• essential oils of choice
• a glass spray bottle
Simply fill a glass spray bottle with water and add several drops of your favorite essential oils or essential oil blends.
My favorite is an anti-germ or immune blend or deodorizing blend.
For single oils, lavender, lemon, or grapefruit essential oils will always produce a pleasant scent and will sanitize at the same time.
Are you starting to see a pattern here? After you start using these homemade cleaning recipes, you’re going to ask yourself why in the world you spent so much money on store-bought cleaners before you tried to DIY it!

what can I use to clean hard water stains off my glass shower door?
[email protected] Humbled Homemaker
Hmmmm…that’s a really good question! I’ve honestly hadn’t had experience with that. But I just read that a combo of vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice is worth a try! Let me know how it turns out!
Emily
Make a spray bottle of white vinegar and some squirts of blue dawn dish soap. Swoosh it around to mix in the bottle. Spray and let it sit on the glass shower doors. You may have to let it sit for hours if it’s a lot of buildup. Then, rinse well. (It will smell a little funky but works great)

Thanks so much for this tip!!

Where is the best place to get good QUALITY spray bottles & foaming hand soap dispensers?
The cheap, dollar store ones are horrible.
Erin
Kelly, my 4 glass spray bottles have all come from Grove (they are offering a freebie basket for my readers right now with a $20 purchase–no pressure! But that’s where mine have really come from). I would check Amazon for other glass spray bottles. I have gotten the foaming hand soap dispensers on Amazon or we previously made our own with canning jars (they eventually broke after a few years but were fun).

This is so practical and helpful! I’ve often been interested in cleaning with less chemicals but researching all-natural cleaners always felt like one more thing to do. I just ran out of my bathroom cleaner this past week so this is a good opportunity to try your recipes. Thanks a bunch!

What is your favorite brand of essential oils?
Melanie @ Fantastic Cleaning Services
Thank you for sharing these lovely recipes! I am a big fan of green cleaning too, most detergents found in the stores contain ammonia and other toxic ingredients I definitely don’t want in my home. My personal favourite homemade cleaning recipe is for ovens. The easiest way to clean an oven naturally, is to use baking soda and vinegar to do it. Baking soda is a base and vinegar is an acid, so when they combine, they start to foam and remove all the dirt on their own, no scrubbing required. So, you basically just have to spread baking soda all over the oven, then spray it with some white vinegar, and leave it overnight. In the morning, you just need to wipe the inside of the oven clean.

Thanks for sharing the recipe to clean the bathroom and thanks to everyone who shared their green cleaning tips. Any suggestions to clean the tough grease on stainless steel range hood filters? I appreciate your ideas.
