I’m excited to announce that after a long hiatus, today I’m starting back to our ongoing “First Years Friday” series! So far, we’ve covered breastfeeding, starting solids and potty training. Now, we’re backing up to one of my favorite natural mama topics: cloth diapering!
I’ve labeled the series “Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert” because, really, I would have never imagined myself using cloth when my first was born! But I “converted” when my second was 8 weeks old and quickly fell in love! Yes, I was quite addicted for a while there!
When I first started using cloth, I read up on the various kinds of diapers, different methods of washing and checked out the best detergents to use, etc. And I made some mistakes–that I hope you can learn from!
This series will cover:
- Why Use Cloth?
- A Breakdown of the Different Types of Cloth Diapers
- Convincing Daddies to Use Cloth Diapers
- Where to Purchase Cloth Diapers–Cheaply
- How to Prep Cloth Diapers
- How to Wash Cloth Diapers
- Disinfecting Cloth Diapers
- and more!
Do you have any specific topics in mind you’d like me to cover? If so, please let me know in the comments! And be sure to check out my other cloth diaper posts below–as well as my sponsor, Sweet Little Blessings!

I’m so excited for you!! I am sure things have changed a lot in 4 years! I’ll most likely be using sposies at Allume, though!
Can’t wait to meet!

I converted to cloth when my first was 7 months old. We cloth diapered our newest little one from the time we got home from the hospital and will continue through till potty trained. Cloth diapering a newborn was sooooo much easier than I expected! I also found a new love. We did pocket diapers with my son and I learned with my daughter that I am actually more of a prefold and cover type girl. They are just so much easier to me!

I’ll be looking forward to this! We started with our 1st (now nearly 2 years old) when he was about a week old. For a while I still did sposies at night but eventually realized cloth worked just as well and made the switch all the way when he was about 3 – 4 weeks old. We still use them (though the little guy is potty learning now).
We use prefolds and covers almost exclusively, and used pocket diapers double stuffed at night for a long time. I line dry whenever I can and it’s super easy and a lot cheaper!
It really is easy–and cheap!!

We started cloth at six days old and have never looked back! We do travel in disposables if we won’t have access to a washer and dryer or if we have been asked not to cloth. We get it! Love cloth diapering!
Love it! I’ve traveled with mine before…but now I typically use sposies while traveling.
