This peanut butter smoothie bowl will make you feel like you’re eating a decadent dessert! I hope you enjoy it!

I’ve always been a peanut butter addict. My mom laughs at the time I was two years old and tried to feed my newborn sister peanut butter on a spoon. I’m glad she can laugh at it. I think I would have flipped out if one of my girls tried to feed our new baby boy peanut butter now!
When we first got married, Will and I made frequent trips to a local ice cream joint to satisfy my craving for peanut butter soft serve. It was absolutely delicious, but it was also full of sugar and not good for me at all!
Fast forward over a decade, and our family now eats much differently. We prefer to avoid sugar except for special occasions, and we’ve had to avoid dairy off and on as well over the past few years.
When our girls were little, I tried my hand at making a dairy-free version of that peanut butter soft serve. I just used my blender, a frozen banana, peanut butter, and some almond milk. Voila! I came up with the the creamiest peanut butter smoothie bowl, and I can’t wait to share the recipe with you.
(Sidenote: Bananas are pretty easy to come by on the clearance rack at most supermarkets. I usually buy these up and freeze them. They are perfect to add to smoothies, smoothie bowls like this one, or to use in baked goods, like banana bread!)

What is a smoothie bowl?
I’m glad you asked!
A smoothie bowl is basically a smoothie that can look like an ice cream or frozen yogurt bowl–but it’s really just an extra thick smoothie!
Any kind of milk or yogurt can serve as the base for a smoothie bowl, and it’s fun to dress them up with various toppings, such as chopped fruit, nuts, chocolate, candy, or even sprinkles or drizzles of chocolate syrup!
The sky is the limit, and involving your kids in making up and dressing their own smoothie bowls can make things extra fun! When my girls were little, I even added spinach and other veggies to the base and just called smoothie bowls “ice cream.” They were none the wiser. 😉
This peanut butter smoothie bowl has been my go-to when I’ve never a boost of energy and protein either at the start of the day or when the mid-afternoon slump hits.
The best part is that it just requires 3 ingredients–so it’s super easy and ready to eat in minutes!
I don’t even add any sweetener because the banana makes it plenty sweet for me!
However, feel free to add your sweetener of choice if you want–some stevia, coconut sugar, or a drizzle of pure maple syrup or raw honey would be my personal choices.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Silk almond milk Read this post for why I prefer Silk and have for years now.
- 2 Tbsp. natural peanut butter
- 1 frozen banana
- Optional: chocolate chips or other toppings of choice
- Optional: 1 cup ice for an extra thick smoothie bowl
Instructions
- Add the 3 ingredients to a blender and blend on the lowest setting that will work for the frozen banana. I had to turn it on a higher speed for my basic blender, but I now use a Blendtec high-powder blender. I have to use the very lowest setting on this one or it liquifies this recipe. If that is the case for you, add an extra banana* and the cup of ice.
- Sprinkle with chocolate chips or other toppings of choice! Even a drizzle of softened peanut butter on top of your smoothie bowl would be fun!
Notes
*If you add the extra banana, you will definitely want to divide the smoothie bowl between two people because it will be extra sweet!
Enjoy!

This looks amazing!! my kids will love it. thank you !! Have you ever tried this with unsweetened almond milk?
Erin
I have, and it was great! I will say to do a taste test. The banana made it plenty sweet for me, but some people will need to ad a bit of sweetener to taste. Enjoy!! 🙂

I’ve been making banana ice cream in my blender recently by whizzing up some frozen banana slices. I never thought about adding peanut butter – what a brilliant idea! I too am a peanut butter addict, my favourite has got to be peanut butter on crumpets! (I’m from the UK!)

You are going to love this SO much!
