Here’s a recipe for homemade peppermint syrup that’s refined sugar-free! It’s made on the stovetop and sweetened with sucanat. Great for adding to coffee!
I recently decided to make homemade peppermint syrup that I needed to use in another peppermint recipe (coming tomorrow!).
It was incredibly easy to put together–and it contains no refined sugars! Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 cup sucanat unrefined sugar--I get mine at our local healthfood store.
- 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
Instructions
- Mix water and sugar in a small saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat until boiling and sucanat is dissolved.
- Add peppermint and let simmer a couple more minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool. Store in a Mason jar.
I haven’t tried it, but I imagine you can make any flavored syrup this way by just changing out the extracts! Maybe I’ll make a vanilla syrup next!
Note: The syrup looks so dark because of the sucanat’s dark color.
Use this syrup to make a yummy homemade peppermint mocha!

Love this! Peppermint latte, homemade peppermint ice cream, peppermint fudge… oh wow, the list goes on and on. Do you know how long it will keep stored?

It’s perfect for my favorite peppermint mochas! It keeps about a month. 🙂 I store it in the fridge.

I use 1 drop of peppermint essential oil for about 2-3 mochas as it is so strong. I might have to try your unrefined version of this syrup. Thanks. 🙂

That sounds delicious!

Could coconut sugar be substituted for sucanat?
Erin
I have never used it in this, but I don’t really see why not–as long as it will dissolve?
