This post is sponsored by Sweet Little Blessings. I was paid monetarily and received a free diaper. This cost helped off-set the expenses of publishing my ebook on cloth diapers. All opinions are mine.
Right before I launched my new ebook, Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert, Coleen, of Sweet Little Blessings, sent me a Softbums Echo cloth diaper to review. I had never tried a Softbums before, so I was pretty excited to get it in the mail.
Fluffy mail isalways fun. 😉
The Softbums Echo is a one-size, all-in-two diaper. And unlike most other one-size diapers, it is supposed to actually fit from 5 to 35 lbs! (Not that I’ve ever had a 5 lb. baby…my last was 9+-lber. at nearly 42 weeks gestation!)
I couldn’t believe how tiny it looked–at the 5lb. setting–when it came to me in the mail!
My youngest baby is probably around 15 lbs. at 7 months, and it fit her great, as you can see in the picture below.
But I also tried the diaper on my “oldest” baby, who is actually potty trained but is still a skinny minnie at a solid 35 pounds. The diaper fit her nicely as well. I think by using bamboo inserts or “pods” as the Softbums system calls them, this may make a nice nighttime diaper for those children who are already daytime trained but still need to wear a diaper at night.
The fact that it can grow with your child from literally birth to beyond potty training is a win-win in my book. And despite the fact that the diaper lasts so long, it is really trim. Check out the side view of the diaper on my baby in the picture above. It’s probably one of my trimmest diapers!
There are really so many features of the Softbums I liked. Instead of adjusting with snaps (as most one-size diapers do), the sizing is adjusted with a drawstring that is on the inside of the diaper. At first I thought I wouldn’t like this feature, but it really is easy to use! I was amazed at how it can go from a teeny tiny diaper to a diaper for a preschooler in seconds!
Another neat feature is that you can reuse the shells (unless they get soiled with poop) just like any all-in-two diaper. So even though the shells are a little pricey at over $20 each, they act more like covers, so you don’t have to buy as many.
I also really like that you can choose which kind of insert you want. There are six different types–from stay-dry to bamboo, from large to small. See all the types here.

We just found out we are expecting #3. I thought about cloth diapering with #2, but when I started to research, I became overwhelmed and chickened out. So I was excited to read about your launch, I quickly bought your book. It’s fabulous! It answered so many questions that I had about cloth diapering (I finished it last night). I found the Softbums website earlier this week, and was really interested in them, after reading your review, I’m definitely going to buy one.

I am so encouraged to hear my book helped you!! Thank you so much! Congrats on #3!! I really wish I had more Softbums in my stash. I have tried to not buy more to save money, but I totally loved this diaper! It is so versatile!

So, I should have clicked the terms and conditions before I entered to contest – I kind of missed it down there. I’m not in the US, so that rules me out unless I can have it shipped to my SIL down there if I win.
Thanks for all the info – we’re expecting an unexpected #5 – cloth diapered using flats part time with #3 & #4, but I’ve been kind of overwhelmed by all the options out there, your book helped bring it all together in my brain!

Sheri,
Erin’s husband here…helping with some replies. Yes, you can have it shipped to your SIL. Prizes usually can’t ship outside the U.S., but you can use the stateside address of a family member, etc. Hope this helps!

I’m so glad the book helped! My sister enters (and actually wins!) contests all the time, and she lives overseas. As long as you get the prize shipped to a U.S. address, it is fine! :)Congrats on #5!!

Once again, your timing is PERFECT!!! I saw a video on youtube that showed how to use a receiving blanket as inexpensive fluff for your cloth diaper covers, and that type of diaper sounded somewhat more appealing than the pockets are turning out to be. Then you post this. Grand! Thank you!
Erin
It really is a great diaper! 🙂
