This 3-step process will remove urine stains from your mattress in no time!
A few years ago, my husband and I got a brand new, luxury mattress right before Christmas.
We were ecstatic. We had the mattress delivered straight to our door, and it was one of the best early Christmas gifts (to ourselves) ever.
Not only did we have a very nice brand new mattress, but we also avoided the dreaded mattress showroom experience and avoided any and all delivery fees by ordering it online.
Since I absolutely hate shopping, I was doing a happy dance when ordering our mattress took a matter of minutes!
The mattress came to us in a box about the size of a mini fridge box.
It came all rolled up, and hubby and I unrolled it together. We then left it for a few hours to expand a bit.

I was especially excited because the mattress was made from certified organic materials and we’ve been trying to reduce exposing our family to certain chemicals.
We had been wanting a safer mattress, and this one far exceeded the standards of our previous mattress.
The first night’s sleep was wonderful. The second night’s sleep was going well until…I woke up–in a pool of pee.
One of our children had climbed into bed with us the night before and had peed in the bed–leaving a giant urine stain on our brand spanking new mattress!
Coop Home Goods UltraLux Bamboo Mattress Pad
I don’t normally mind when our kids climb into bed with us at night. They are only little once, and we will miss their cuddles one day.
But for urine to get on our brand new mattress two nights after we got it?!
I will be honest: I was mad. I was so mad, that my husband had to remind me that I’m the one who usually tells him not to “cry over spilled milk.” It was an accident, after all.
“A bedwetting accident was bound to happen eventually,” he said. “It might as well have happened now.”
Still, I was determined to keep this mattress nice, so I had to figure out how to clean pee from my memory-foam mattress–and stat!
To my relief, getting the pee out of the mattress only took two ingredients, and I already had them both on hand!
Ingredients You Need to Remove Urine from a Mattress
- Vinegar – Effective on stains with mild disinfectant properties1, though the usage here is mostly for reducing the smell or urine since diluted vinegar is not strong enough to be considered a disinfectant.2 (Warning: Do not use with bleach!)
- Baking Soda – Most often used in baking, this natural mineral is helpful in neutralizing bad odors and also has some antibacterial properties as well.3
You likely already have these ingredients in your pantry, and, if not, you can easily buy them at any local grocery store! Our mattresses have been peed on so many times now (again–we have four kids!) that we always keep these on hand.
Homemade Mattress Cleaning Solution
- 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1-2 cups baking soda
You will also need:
- 2-3 large towels
- spray bottle
- vacuum cleaner

How to Clean Pee Out of a Mattress
Step 1 – Remove all sheets, blankets, and mattress covers, getting them in the washing machine as quickly as possible (preferably before it dries).
Step 2 – Blot the urine by pressing a large towel into the mattress (don’t try to scrub it out!), getting up as much of the liquid as possible. (If you have a white towel that’s even better as fabric dye can sometimes rub off onto memory foam.) Mattresses, both memory foam and traditional, tend to absorb a lot of liquid and take a long time to dry, so this step is really important in trying to avoid lingering smells!
Step 3 – Pour the white vinegar and water into your spray bottle and spray the entire urine spot with this solution and let stand for at least five to ten minutes. You’ll want to be slightly heavy handed here so that the vinegar/water solution gets into the mattress a bit.
Step 4 – Using a clean towel, it’s again time to blot out all remaining liquid.
Step 5 – Sprinkle baking soda over the entire wet stain. Let stand for 8-10 hours. (Ideally, you will do this first thing in the morning, as soon as you discover the pee on the mattress, in order to give it all day to sit!)
Step 6 – Vacuum up the baking soda.
Repeat the process if the urine stain and odor are still on the mattress. The odor should be completely gone from the mattress, but you may still have a very faint stain.

I was very satisfied after using this method to remove urine from the mattress after only one cleaning!
There was still a faint circle, especially around the edges where I did not get baking soda, but I was happy that it was mostly unnoticeable.
As irony would have it, another one of our children wet in our bed two nights before I wrote this post!
Lucky me: I had the opportunity to try out this method of getting pee out of a mattress again.
Free Chart: 5 Quick & Easy Switches to Detox Your Laundry Room
I used the exact same method to remove the urine from my memory foam mattress, and this time I saw it work even better–even removing more of the original stain!
This confirmed to me that repeating the process really does yield the best results, if you have the patience for that. In the years since this has happened, I’ve used this method again and again.
While, ideally, just use a good mattress cover and avoid this predicament all together, this method for getting pee out of mattresses is a lifesaver (and mattress saver!).

I am perplexed. Why not just get a waterproof mattress pad. Save your mattress and your sanity.
Erin
We actually have one but it doesn’t seem to keep the pee from soaking through! Clearly, I must need to replace it too! Any recommendations? My husband says he doesn’t want anything that feels like plastic. Thanks 🙂
Rhonda
We have a plastic pad on my handicapped daughter’s bed. But I always use mattress pads on top. No feel or sound of plastic. Of course, once she pees, I have to wash the mattress pad as well as the sheets. But that seems to be comfortable in all sorts of weather.
Maggie
We’ve got 5 kids. Thankfully, they are all well past the bed wetting stage. But now that I’m turning 50 I feel like I am re-entering the bed wetting stage myself! ?
When my kids have wet the bed or vomited all over us or the carpet, I ALWAYS had a hand held carpet cleaner (Little Green Machine) to pull out to soak up as much as possible once the towels stage was finished.
I wish I knew about the waterproof cloth hospital pads when my kids were little. They totally save the need to wash all the sheets and mattes pads. I have a few from surgeries I have had and now my teenage girls use them during their periods “just in case”.
Janine
I totally understand that. I am 51 & have bladder issues. However it only happens about 3 times a year..so I am glad to see this method of cleaning!!
Erin
I’m glad it only happens infrequently and that you found some encouragement here!
Deanna
Go to amazon or dog washable pee pads they are awesome used them on my our beds and by the front door they are awesome make sure you over lap them about three inch on each side my female boxer seems to miss the middle and get on the edges but the urine will not seep thru them
Alex
I have seen YouTube videos where the person will also use Hydrogen Peroxide mixed with a few drops of dish soap, than sprinkle baking soda over and let sit, than vacuum up. Have you tried Peroxide?
Itcel Careaga-Irra
Ashley Furniture sells a really good one. Avg $100 for a king size one. Does not soak through at all.
Sarah
Don’t let your kids sleep with you 🙂 As soon as one of my kids climbs in bed I promptly put them back in their own bed. They finally got the message and don’t try anymore.
Debbie Meredith
ugh! to you

I agree!!

Mother took care of our bedridden Grandmother for several months during the 1950’s. She told me layers of newspaper under the sheet worked great!
Erin
Wow! Never heard of that!
Melissa
I have bought great mattress covers from Walmart and target that are really soft (feel just like any other cloth mattress cover.) and not krinkly or hot. Just make sure it says waterproof!
Elaine Cromwell
Well, umm.., obviously we do that rather ASAP.
Why not?
Edges of pads and truly over the top saturation. Pads beneath have no safeguard for top sheets, over blankets…, you’ve apparently no idea. Bedspreads. Our own bodies with pee drying on them as we hope for the best- that is, please don’t let all three of us awaken with diaper rash.
!!!THAT IS IT!!
Kid needs to wear an overnight diaper.
Wow. Big mystery there.
Make it an expensive comfortable pull up. You should help them to be proud of being “halfway there”.
Rachel
I don’t know if it can be used on memory foam, but on old standard mattresses we used oxiclean in water then blotted dry as much as possible, and it did a great job when my son was small.
Erin
Thanks for the tip, Rachel! I love oxygen “bleach”!
Kristen
It’s best to avoid using oxygen bleach on pee strains since pee contain ammonia. This will create harmful chemicals in the mattress and air. Ammonia and bleach should never be mixed.
Erin
Oxygen bleach isn’t the same as regular bleach; it’s actually the same as hydrogen peroxide. We don’t use regular bleach in our home except in extremely rare occasions when we have a virus like the norovirus. I hope that clears things up!
nancy
Well I rescued animals and I use Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda on the stains and the smell. Having lung issues and being on disability I cannot use chemicals and I will tell you right now that hydrogen peroxide is the best cleaner you can ever find as well as so many other purposes just Google it and you will be amazed. A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar are used to clean condos. A lot better than anything you can buy on the market. I buy peroxide by the gallons!!!!!!!!
Sandra L Wagner
Real bleach (hypochlorite solution) can react with acids to release chlorine gas. Urine contains uric acid. Uric acid is 3 molecules of ammonia stuck together. If the bleach causes the uric acid to break apart, then ammonia will be released, too. Oxy is hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) – if this molecule breaks apart you get water (H2O) and oxygen (O2) – nothing harmful. Sorry for geeking all over you.
Janet
Geek away! Awesome 👏🏽 explanation, and now I’ve learned something new!
Shoshana
I’ve been researching healthier mattress options and will check Leesa out. As for a waterproof mattress cover, I have two Cool Shield ones I ordered from Amazon and they’ve worked great so far – not plasticky or hot like the first one I bought locally – https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00D04MTA2/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Erin
Thanks SO much for the tip, Shoshanna! Our biggest hesitation in getting a waterproof cover is the plastic!
Joe
They have cloth waterproof material now. Kind of like the cloth shower curtains. I am a diabetic and my body stopped creating the symptoms of low blood sugar until it was dangerously low then I’d wake up soaking wet from sweat and a couple times I peed too. After the first time I found a cover. I didn’t want the plastic either. I forget where I found the first one. I believe it was someplace like Bed, Bath & Beyond. I also found one at Big Lots once. I think I have three brand new ones and two I switch out when I do laundry. (you never know when you might have company…lol)
I used the vinegar and baking soda method which I remembered an ex using for dogs on carpet.
Mary
Oh, the joys of parenthood…waking up in a puddle of pee…or vomit…or both. Thankfully, my daughter is a freak of nature and hasn’t wet the bed since she turned two. UNLESS she’s sick, then anything goes.
I bought a new mattress have a layer of waterproof protector, mattress pad, change of sheets, waterproof protector, mattress pad, sheets.
Maybe, try layering if this is a frequent problem. Bonus: saves time remaking the bed.
Erin
I love the layering concept! I prefer pee to vomit, so that’s one bright side to consider! LOL Thanks, Mary!
Sarah
Yes, get a new waterproof mattress pad! I’ve used the same cleaning method except with oats instead of baking soda if I didn’t have enough baking soda on hand at the time. It works too!
Erin
I’ve never heard of using oats! Thanks so much for the tip!
Lela
Our mattress cover is waterproof but doesn’t feel like plastic. It was around $100 at a local mattress store. We just bought new mattresses too, and made sure to get one this time.
Erin
I think we need one of those asap! Thanks, Lela!
Jane
My kids rarely slept in our bed, but when they would come over in the middle of the night, I made them use the potty before climbing into bed with us. I had discovered that, most of the time, the reason they were waking up in the first place was because they needed to pee. So a quick trip to the bathroom before coming back to bed saved us from a lot of messes!
Erin
This seems like such a no-brainer but is GENIUS, Jane! I have to admit that that has never occurred to me! Thanks for sharing!
Michele @ Frugal Granola
Yes! Exactly the same at our house!
Erin
You ladies might have just saved us lots of sleep (and laundry) for years to come! Haha!
Sarah
That is genius.
Iagop
I wet the bed for years, until my mother told me to stop drinking an hour before bedtime, use the bathroom before bed and yes!she suggested that if I woke up at night to go use the bathroom. My bedwetting stopped almost instantly! Turns out I would wake up almost nightly because i had to pee. Lol

Greetings,
I’m a home-educating dad of four daughters (ages 14, 13, 10, and 6). Thanks for your website! We’ve been using Ikea bedding and mattress waterproof pads for years. No plastic feeling. Inexpensive and easy to clean.
See: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/bedroom/24824/ and http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40281220/
Erin
Thanks for the tips! My hubby has been checking out links for waterproof pads all day!
Joel32
I have had a bit of an issue with wetting the bed since I was a boy, not so often that I need to wear pull up but often enough that it’s a thing. As a boy /teen I went through no less than half a dozen mattresses and the best thing I ever did was invest in quality waterproof mattress protector for every bed I’m going to sleep on. If away from home I take a peapod mat and sleep directly on top, of course anyone interested enough to notice will conclude it’s for protection from bedwetting but I rather that than apologize for ruining there bed in the morning. If you are prepared for bedwetting accidents then you can usually clean up and get the washing done without anyone noticing. Some family members go so far as to make my bed up with waterproof bedding ahead of me in doing so eleviate any awkwardness.
Diana
Hooray!! I was already using baking soda on pee stains and my hubby was skeptical, so now I can show him that a mattress company recommends it! I hadn’t tried the vinegar first, but now I will definitely add that. Thanks for taking the time to write and show the pictures!
Erin
I was happy to “turn lemons into lemonaid” when this method worked for me!
Dawn
Thankfully I don’t have a problem with the kids. My youngest still has her waterproof crib matress and my oldest has always had a waterproof matress cover. My problem is our cat peeing on the carpet by a closet door. I have never figured out how to get rid of the smell, but it never occurred to me to use a vinegar spray on the carpet. I am totally going to try this technique on our carpet to see if it works for removing set-in smells.
Erin
I haven’t tried it on carpet (oxygen bleach and peroxide–not at the same time) did work with me on carpet one time, though, but I hope it helps!!
K. Ann Guinn
We have dealt with cat pee (with an old cat), and one thing I know is DO NOT use bleach! For some reason, it makes it worse. I don’t know if we tried vinegar (if I did, which I normally would have tried…it didn’t work sufficiently).
But Nature’s Miracle Urine Destroyer Stain and Residue Eliminator is the best and only thing we’ve ever tried that works! And it smells good! So if the vinegar isn’t sufficient, give this stuff a try. We’ve found it to be irreplaceable and worth every penny! (Incidentally, some reviewers have said they also used it for human pee. )
Erin
Thanks for the tip on not using bleach and also for the urine destroyer review!
M Brown
When my niece was little I would actually wake her up and walk her to the bathroom before I went to be so she had a chance to pee in the late evening. My children are older now but I now have them since I have cats who think they need to pee on mattresses.
Erin
Good idea!
Tracy Huffman
Those blue and white pads that hospitals use under patients would work well. I believe they’re calle “Chux”. You can get them at drug stores or medical supply stores.
Tracy Birkland
You can get them at the pet stores or discount outlets sell them for a lot less. I had one baby that had accidents and we used chux or a mattress cover but didn’t know about the stain remover I would have loved that..
Erin
Thanks for the tip!

IKEA have decent waterproof mattress protectors. I have one on my bed and one each in the kids. The bottom is plastic but the top is like terry cloth and the bed doesn’t feel like it has any plastic on it. They are different prices for different sizes. Thank you for sharing this though!! I wish I had known this years ago but I won’t forget it now.
Erin
Thank you! Obviously, we need to get one! We are now in the market for one!
Rhona
My kids pee through the IKEA one, hence me finding this post in a bid to save our new ££ Otty mattress 🙈
Sarah
We have a foam mattress and bought a waterproof mattresses cover from the furniture store we bought the mattress from. It’s not plastic and it has worked very well in keeping the mattress dry after my kids have wet our bed. I highly recommend it! Also Target has soft waterproof mattress pads for regular beds that our not plastic. Life changers!

i just bought a brand new 2000 or so sealy mattress and a “100% waterproof baystreet healthgurard mattress cover ” for a bunch extra in order protect it to get the extended warrenty on the mattress we had to get it. my son has had an accident about 3 times so far with the cover on and after the newest one i noticed there is staining on my mattress, regardless of the cover. im so upset.
Nancy
Call the 800 number on the mattress cover folder. If you paid tons of money for it I would fight for a money back or perhaps they will clean the mattress for you. Worth a try. I call 800#’s whenever I have product problems and you might be surprised how most companies do NOT want to lose customers.
Olivia
Would this work on dog pee when are dog was a puppy she had a couple of acdents on are bed
Erin
I am sure it would, but I am not sure how old the stain would have to be. It’s worth a try at least!
Erika
I just purchased a waterproof mattress pad from Bed Bath & Beyond. It’s very thin, no plastic and it keeps me from getting hot at night (that’s a bonus). My husband sweats at night due to medication but with this mattress pad he doesn’t sweat as much as with a regular mattress pad. I know when we bought our foam mattress the seller said not to use a standard pad because you don’t get the body conforming benefits.
Erin
We are getting ready to order one after we discovered it was just ours not absorbing correctly. Thanks so much for the recommendation of one! I hadn’t thought about sweat protection, but that is important too!
Dana
Just a thought, if it’s the same child with the wetting accidents, an overnight pull up might be a good choice along with having them use the potty betfore they climb into bed with you.
Erin
Thanks, Dana! Unfortunately, the one was wearing a pull-up (had actually wet through two) on the night of the first incident. 🙁 The second one wasn’t, though.
Wendy
I don’t think this solution has been shared yet, but I’ve had great success with this method (also with puppy accidents on the carpet): in a squirt bottle combine 8oz of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and a drop or 2 of dish soap. Swirl, don’t shake, to combine. Spray liberally on stain and then let dry. Once dry you can vacuum up the baking soda residue, if there is any. Unfortunately you can’t keep this mixture for any length of time as it will bubble over. I’ve kept it until the end of the day as long as i unscrewed the top.
Erin
Thank you so much for sharing, Wendy!
Dee
I learned this while watched the PBS show Ruff Ruffman with the kids. 🙂 To get out skunk smells they mixed hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and it was the only thing to completely get out the smell. I thought I’d try that for accidents so I made a paste and applied to the wet spot. It works great.
Elaine Martin
My son was born with a rare genetic disorder (Angelman Syndrome) and was nightime incontinent his entire life. We also have had many much loved older dogs who had accidents on the carpets and liked to tangle with skunks. Our Vet recommended a product called Odor Mute after one of the skunk events (available at most Pet stores). It is an enzyme powder that you mix with warm water and spray on/saturate the dog’s coat. It eliminates the odor as it dries. It worked so well that I tried it on the mattress stains. I soaked up as much of the urine as possible with a towel first and also the excess moisture after spraying on the enzyme/water mix. Turned a fan on it to speed drying. Worked great! My son had many, many accidents over the years (including on the new sofa the day after we bought it) and my house never smelled like urine. Costs about $10 box and will give you many treatments. I also used it as a laundry additive for soiled bedding and on aging parent’s clothing as she became incontinent. And on dog urine and vomit. Really great product!

It’s amazing how you found so efficient solutions to clean your mattress. My son is still a little baby, but after 1-2 years I guess I am gonna face the same problem. Thanks for sharing with us your cleaning receipt!

Anyone ever use a carpet cleaner with upholstery attachment? Spray with diluted oxiclean let sit, and suck it up. Letting it air dry in sun is helpful if you an get it to the sunshine. But the mattress covers I have are not plasticky. Check online.

Thanks, Candy! We just ordered one from Amazon and are getting ready to put them on the bed!

I have 3 bedwetters, they don’t sleep in my bed anymore, they’re older. But we use 1 part alcohol, 1 part peroxide to 6 parts water, it removes the smell and stain almost always?
Erin
Thanks for the tip!
Tiffany
If my little one wets her bed, I typically use the same method and on sunny days I take the mattress outside and let it sit in the sun for a few hours. The mattress smells like the great outdoors afterwards.
Erin
That’s a great idea to sun it!
Vanessa
I’ve tried this method for cleaning a mattress too and it works well. Our mattress is getting pretty old but I wanted to get something without all of the chemicals AND without spending tons of money. I ordered our first Leesa mattress tonight. Fingers crossed for better sleep and a healthier environment.
Erin
I hope you like it as much as we do! And be more careful than I was with the kid pee on the brand new mattress! LOL!!!
Amy Hufston
Thanks for sharing these great tips! The baking soda really helps in these situations, because it also absorbs some of the remaining liquid. I’ve never tried this method, but next time (let’s hope there won’t be a next time) I will try it. So far, I’ve only used special commercial cleaners, but if there’s a more natural way, it’s worth trying.

“Urine Gone!”…Stain & Odor Eliminator…As Seen On TV…for Pet or People Accidents with Enzyme Action
I just tried this stuff (purchased at Walmart – found in the carpet cleaner section). Amazing! The urine on the mattress was already dry. I just saturated the entire area and let it air dry. Easy and works wonders! Runs about $10 a bottle.
Marie
My youngest slept with me last night in my fairly new $600 double pillow top mattress and needless to say he peed the bed smh woke up at 6am and was furious but I sprung into action and quickly grabbed the baking soda lol now I’m just waiting a lil longer til I vacuum it up, spray with vinegar mixture and then sprinkle with baking soda again. Ohhhh the joys of motherhood I tell ya lol did I mention the mattress price lol uhm yea
Erin
Oh no! That is the EXACT same thing that happened to us!! It was the worst feeling to wake up in a brand new mattress like that! I hope this helps you!!
Justin Young
For us it was the dog. She’s a year old and is usually really good about going outside, except for that day. She was lying on the bed as my wife was doing her hair and decided to leg it go on our week old mattress, which was NOT cheap! Lol. We used a upolstry cleaner but I’ll have to give this a try next time.

Please forgive me if this has already been mentioned, because I did not read all of the comments. Since I was a child, and I have carried it through my whole life now, I always use a zippered plastic mattress cover. It covers the whole mattress. It keeps any dirt or accidents from the mattress, and should you get any mites or anything that might live in mattresses, it protects you since the mattress is totally sealed. Then we put a fitted mattress pad on top of it, so you have that padding plus no heat from the plastic. I honestly don’t know why more people don’t do this. It is easy to wipe off to keep it clean. Sheets on top of the mattress pad and you are good to go!
Ruth
Hello Erin,
We just bought a bunk bed (with steps, not a ladder) for our son. We have a waterproof cover, mattress pad, and sheet on the top bunk (where he chose to sleep the very first night). Because he didn’t seem interested in sleeping on the lower bed, we did not set it up except to put a sheet on it for aesthetics. One night he decided to sleep on the lower bed. It was past his bed time, we were tired, and frankly we just didn’t think about proper protection that night (We could have swapped the top mattress and lower mattress — but we were more focused on just getting him to bed — hindsight is 20/20). By now you can probably foresee what happened. Yes, he wet the bed / mattress with two pools of pee. I had a younger sister that wet her bed for a number of years, and I vaguely remembered my mother did something with banking soda to clean up the pee. I Googled the topic and found your post. Your method was the “old remedy” my mother used. We followed your directions exactly, and it worked perfectly! No stain, no smell. Yahoo! Thanks to you, it was no big drama, and the perfect solution. I have saved the link to your solution. P.S. We did buy the covers, pads etc., for the lower bunk bed.
Ruth
Oops! I meant “Baking Soda”

My last payment for my new mattress i got a few months ago was taken out today so its officially mine now…today. I have 2 toddlers so weve had one of those waterproof bedliners on it and im glad I did cause its been peed on numerous times by them and saved the day everytime. Until this morning that is. So ironic the day I officially own the bed my son pees in it last night and the waterproof liner failed and it soaked right through it into my beautiful new mattress. Im crying on the inside still 8 hours later as i type this. Anyway i googled how to clean it and happened upon your link so im giving it a try. Had to run out to work early so didnt have time to really do anything but sop up the excess with a towel. Hope it still works 8 hours later lol. Thanks for the cleaning tips. I swear by both vinegar and baking soda in daily life so im sure its my best bet.

“Lightly spray the entire urine spot with a solution of 50/50 white vinegar and let stand for five to ten minutes.”
50/50 of white vinegar and what? What is the other half? Water?
Thanks!
Erin
Water! I’m sorry! I need to update that! That is confusing! I’m surprised no one else has commented!
Mary H Wilson
Everyone else probably is better at this cleaning stuff. HA! Thank you so much. I am trying this in the morning.
Erin
I hope it works!

Hi. I was reading your instructions. The 50/50 solution. I’m guessing that’s water and vinegar? It didn’t say not at least I missed that part.

thank you for this terrific post, I am glad I noticed this internet site on yahoo.

Hi Erin
I usually blot with towels then pour on a thick layer of salt to absorb the rest of the pee. After a couple hours the salt has changed consistency and looks thicker like mini icebergs. I vacuum up the salt then apply baking soda. Seems to work just as well as your method. Although 50/50 vinegar helps with the smell.

Thanks for sharing. My grandson wet the bed a couple nights ago and I didn’t know what to do. So I googled 🙂 I was very skeptical that the stains would really be gone, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to try your method. Well, all signs of the accident are gone! Thank you!

How can I do without using baking soda?
Elaine Cromwell
Hmmmm…., a reason for not using baking soda? Of course, the mattress is dried completely (fan toward the mattress), after a vinegar spray soak, delicate dabbing- paper towels are best-after a half hour or so; baking soda thickly spread; dried (again with the fan there); then vacuumed super thoroughly over all four directions, and in between those because why not?
Dry and dry again if you possibly can.
Long process? I guess. Stinky mattress which over time only gets worse- if not we’ll cleaned, the soiling will simply build up in a mattress.
Baking soda? A must. As it dries and crusts up it draws moisture instead of flushing it down and in.
Once the problem discovered?
Go with all the various pads.
Soaking prevention is really the only solution.
First accident, though?
Gotta fix it.
A full day of attention?
Mattresses are expensive.
Oh my gosh! Maybe get the cheapest mattress you can and do the pads-daily washing of sheets and blankets and over time, people stop wetting the bed…, stupid idea? I can’t tell.
Only thought of it just now.
lisa
